AUSTIN—Today, Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson marked one year since she was unanimously confirmed by the Texas Senate to serve as Secretary.

“I am proud of the work our agency has done in the last year to fulfill our mission,“ Secretary Jane Nelson said.“Thank you to Governor Abbott and my former Senate colleagues for placing your confidence in me to serve in this role.“

In Texas, the Secretary of State is appointed by the Governor and confirmed by a two-thirds vote of the Senate. Before serving as Secretary of State, Secretary Nelson was a state senator for 30 years.

Since her confirmation, Secretary Nelson and her office have:

  • Prioritized and achieved quicker turnaround times for business filings;
  • Managed the administration of two statewide elections;
  • Seen the number of voter registrations grow to a record 17.9 million Texans;
  • Held 14 voter education events across the state in addition to conducting a voter information campaign that reached every county in Texas;
  • Continued the modernization process for many agency services, including a new system to expedite trademarks;
  • Met with dozens of business and political leaders from both from the U.S. and abroad who want to learn about Texas and increase investment in the state;
  • Took part in three international missions overseas to encourage business investment in Texas; and
  • Presided over four meetings of the Border Trade Advisory Committee as its chair.

“The mission of our agency is important to a free and prosperous Texas, and I look forward to continuing our work on behalf of the people of Texas,“ Secretary Nelson said.
