**Filing period : Generally, the filing deadline is the 62nd day prior to election day (70th day prior to November General); however, the Election Code may provide a different special election filing deadline.  See Section 144.005(a) of the Texas Election Code. Local political subdivisions, other than cities or school districts, might not have a "first day" to file. Filing deadlines vary for special elections to fill vacancies. See Section 201.054 of the Texas Election Code. Write-in deadlines for general and special elections also vary, but the deadline is usually on the 5th day after the regular filing deadline for the election.
