Secretary Andrade urges prompt response to census
AUSTIN – Secretary of State Hope Andrade joined representatives of the 2010 Census at the Capitol on March 12 to promote the importance of a complete count of all Texas residents. Census forms are being mailed or delivered to residents by the Census Bureau soon. Below are some highlights from Secretary Andrade’s comments in which she urged Texans to respond promptly to the census.
-
This is our state’s chance to secure the necessary representation and resources to meet our growing needs over the next decade.
-
If Texans go uncounted, Texas will be shortchanged.
-
In fact, according to the Texas State Demographer, each person not counted in Texas could result in a loss of $13,500 in federal funds over the next decade to Texas state and local governments.
-
We will all be receiving the census forms in the mail over the coming weeks and I invite you to join me as we work together to ensure a complete count here in the Lone Star State.
